Pittsburgh Penguins dive into the digital world

Jeremy Zimmer, the Senior Director of New Media for the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and a leading digital pioneer in sport, will be flying in to speak to an invite-only audience of 350 top digital executives at Leaders in Digital Sport, Chelsea FC, on the 10th and 11th October.

Having been selected for digital best practice in the North American sports market by an advisory board consisting of BSkyB, ESPN, Manchester City, RFU, ECB, BBC and Chelsea, he will present the integrated commercial digital strategy designed to monetise content and sponsors across all Pittsburgh Penguin’s properties.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are experiencing a rapid social media growth on all platforms, recently passing 1.45 million followers combined on Facebook and Twitter, 100,000 on the Pens Mobile Club and 30,000 on the unique Student Rush text program. Those numbers – in addition to surpassing 350,000 downloads on the Pens Mobile App underscore the Penguins’ status as a franchise directly engaging and connecting to its fans. The Penguins currently have 252,750 Twitter followers – more than any other U.S.-based NHL team and ranking among the leaders of all North American pro franchises. Jeremy will be discussing some of the key generators for these numbers, such as fan engagement initiatives and integration of commercial partners into their digital activation strategy.
