Carsten Schmidt, Chief Officer Sports, member of the board, and the top digital executive at Sky Deutschland, is the latest senior industry figure to be announced as a speaker for the annual gathering of 350 digital experts – Leaders in Digital Sport – on 10th and 11th October 2012.
Schmidt joins a cutting-edge panel debate on how sports fans will consume content, from companion screens and social TV, to live streaming and social broadcasting. He joins a list of world class speakers already confirmed from NBC Sports, BBC, Major League Soccer, YouTube and New York Jets.
He said, “I am looking forward to participating at Leaders in Digital Sport in London for the first time. It’s a great mix of exceptional speakers, well chosen topics and a perfect opportunity for networking. I hope to add value by contributing insights from Sky Deutschland on how we answer on first and second screens towards the expectations of fans to interact with their sports.”
Schmidt joined Sky Deutschland as Head of Sport in 1999, following executive roles at some of Europe’s leading sports media providers. As Chief Officer Sports, Advertising Sales and Internet he is responsible for the editorial work and production of sports programming and sports rights purchasing, and all of the company’s online activities. With the announcement earlier this year that Sky Deutschland had secured the Bundesliga rights for 2013-2017, as well currently owning rights to Formula 1, golf and other football competitions including the UEFA Champions League, Germany’s major broadcaster is set to revolutionise how sport is consumed in Europe’s biggest country.
He is the latest speaker to confirm for the 2012 conference which has a reputation for bringing together the world’s top digital executives in sport. It is held as part of the invite-only, prestigious Leaders Sport Summit which attracts a sell-out audience of 1,500 CEOs and Directors from across 45 sports and 55 countries.
