Leaders in Digital Sport is one of the newest additions to the prestigious Leaders Sports Summit, the brainchild of James Worrall, Founder and CEO of Executive Sport Ltd. This major international event grew from the hugely successful launch of the Leaders in Football conference in 2007, which provided a premium meeting and unique communication platform for the most important leaders in world football and sports.

As Leaders in Football grew in size, scope and reputation, drawing attendees from across the world and across sports, “digital workshops in sport” were introduced in 2009 for a select group of senior rights holders. Leaders was then asked by the industry to provide further digital sessions based on similar content for 2010, offering best practice case studies in digital strategies. Such was the success and excitement of these workshops that the Leaders in Digital Sport conference was formalised to provide an opportunity to learn from digital leaders from around the globe.

Leaders in Digital Sport 2011 was officially launched on 6th October 2011, showcasing the world of opportunity that awaits the sports industry in the digital age, bringing together 200 senior experts from clubs, leagues, associations, federations and brands in sport. Following input from a number of highly respected digital experts, a conference programme based on technology, interaction with fans, gaming, social media and commercialising digital content was produced to create the best learning environment for those involved in sports and digital.

Amongst the highlights of this first Leaders in Digital Sport conference were the Keynote Presentations. Bob Bowman, the CEO and President of MLB Advanced Media, flew over from the States to deliver a unique insight into MLB’s interactive media and internet company, viewed by many in the sports industry as the leading light in digital sport, and Andrew Wilson, Executive VP at EA Sports, who outlined how data, engagement and technology can transform a digital business.

The expanded Leaders in Digital Sport 2012 Conference hosted a stellar line up of speakers, with the crowd addressed by prestigious representatives from companies such as Facebook, Sky Sports, Fox Sports, YouTube, NBC, BBC, Terra, Maple Leaf Sport and Entertainment, Pittsburgh Penguins, MLS, Universal Music, Manchester City and more. Sessions concentrated on the major topics within the industry, including; Digital lessons outside sport, how fans will consume sport in the future, the digitalisation of the Olympics, Digital fan engagement, building new digital platforms and finally a session on how the music industry has coped with content rights issues.
